Who wouldn't want to have a Jane Austen Christmas? Jane Austen wrote about Christmas time in each of her major novels. Who can forget Mr Elton's proposal to Emma on Christmas Eve, Anne Elliot visiting the Musgroves at Uppercross during the holidays, or newly engaged Elizabeth Bennet inviting Aunt Gardiner to Pemberley for Christmas?
Carlo DeVito, the author of A Jane Austen Christmas, does what Austen didn't, since she didn't need to describe in details what her contemporary certainly knew: how to decorate or what to cook for Christmas, what music to sing or play or what little gifts to make. He collects all those details for us and depicts what a typical British Christmas must have been like in the Georgian Era.
A Jane Austen Christmas gives a detailed look into six Christmases Jane Austen artistically wove into her novels. This festive book will hit shelves in October 2015, just in time for the holidays. Written by Carlo DeVito, this book provides a deeper look into the lives of Austen and her family as they encounter a series of firsts in love, loss and celebration. Drawing from selections of Austen’s letters between friends and family, DeVito highlights the most influential holiday seasons with historical detail, providing Janeites with a first-ever view into a Georgian Christmas. This elegant book includes an introduction by Margaret C. Sullivan, author of The Jane Austen Handbook, recipes for cocktails and explanations of several party games as Austen played them. Readers of A Jane Austen Christmas are transported back to a world of family and festivities with the book’s in-depth detail of songs, dances, recipes and traditions. Janeites will learn how to decorate and host a celebratory dinner, and toast with Admiral Russell’s Punch. They can play Bullet Pudding and Snap-dragon with loved ones, just like Austen and her sisters did. So raise a glass and celebrate, Austen-style.

Love her writting. Thanks for a chance to win.
I've always thought it would be interesting to celebrate Christmas in a different time period. The Jane Austen time period seems like a wonderful time period to do so. Thanks for sharing this information on your blog. robeader53@yahoo.com
what an interesting take on Austen!
I would love to win this. I have another book, Jane Austen's Christmas by Maria Hubert, but I'd love to read a fresh take on it. Thanks!
I love Christmas themed books and stories and Jane Austin, so what could be better than this! sonja dot nishimoto AT gmail dot com
I wonder if Carlo has found anything in Jane Austen's correspondence about Jane's favorite gifts. Obviously, things weren't as commercial as they are today, but I am curious as to what gifts she and her family treasured. No idea about what "firsts in love, loss and celebration" they had - you have me very curious!
Jane Austen and Christmas, magical.
