MIDNIGHT IN AUSTENLAND BY SHANNON HALE - GIVEAWAY

This book, following Austenland (Bloomsbury, 2007), sprang from the work Shannon Hale was carrying out  while writing the screenplay for Austenland the movie  (starring Keri Russel and J.J. Feild and coming out 2012) with Jerusha Hess, as the author herself explains on her site. Shannon Hale states she was delighted to explore the gothic romance in order to write her "unintended"  sequel to her successful first Austen-inspired novel, a genre she has always been fascinated by since she was in college.

Synopsis

When Charlotte Kinder treats herself to a two-week vacation at Austenland, she happily leaves behind her ex-husband and his delightful new wife, her ever-grateful children, and all the rest of her real life in America. She dons a bonnet and stays at a country manor house that provides an immersive Austen experience, complete with gentleman actors who cater to the guests' Austen fantasies.

Everyone at Pembrook Park is playing a role, but increasingly, Charlotte isn't sure where roles end and reality begins. And as the parlor games turn a little bit menacing, she finds she needs more than a good corset to keep herself safe. Is the brooding Mr. Mallery as sinister as he seems? What is Miss Gardenside's mysterious ailment? Was that an actual dead body in the secret attic room? And-perhaps of the most lasting importance-could the stirrings in Charlotte's heart be a sign of real-life love?

This book sounds really interesting. I have always wondered what it would be like to spend time immersed in Jane Austen for a few days.

I have really enjoyed Shannon's works. After reading Austenland and enjoying it I checked out from the library "Rapunzel's revenge" and "Princess Academy". Lots of fun with really different twists. I read Shannon's blog about the movie and her time in the U.K. during filming. What a dream come true. I hope this new book is as great as the first and I'd love to read it. Suzan
