AUTHOR GUEST POST: AMANDA KAI, LOVE IN JANE AUSTEN'S BOOKS. NEW RELEASE, EXCERPT, GAME & GIVEAWAY.

Thank you, Maria Grazia, for inviting me to come back to My Jane Austen Book Club this month in time to celebrate the month of love with my Valentine’s Day release, The Pleasure of Remembrance!

February is the perfect time to talk about love in Jane Austen’s books, because all of them contain beautiful love stories that have withstood the test of time and continue to capture our hearts and inspire new retellings and variations daily.

My favorite of all is the enemies-to-lovers romance between Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet in Pride and Prejudice. There’s something so captivating about their characters and the misunderstandings they develop before coming to realize that they are a perfect fit for each other.

Although love is the heartbeat of all the Austen stories, it comes in a variety of shapes and sizes.

SUDDEN AWAKENING BOOK TOUR: INTERVIEW WITH AUTHOR AMANDA KAI & GIVEAWAY

Interview with Amanda Kai

Hello Amanda and welcome back to My Jane Austen Book Club. Congratulation on your new release, Sudden Awakenings. It brings a fresh twist to Pride and Prejudice by introducing Elizabeth Bennet's struggle with sleepwalking. What inspired you to incorporate this unique aspect into her character, and how do you think it influences her relationship with Mr. Darcy?

Well, originally, I planned to write a compromise scenario based on the scene from the end of the 2005 Pride and Prejudice movie, where Elizabeth walks out into the field in her nightgown and Mr. Darcy meets her there in a state of half-dress and they are witnessed by some gossipping neighbor.

However, I struggled to conceive a realistic reason for why these otherwise upstanding people would suffer from such a gross lack of propriety (even in the movie, it is a stretch, but I forgive it, just because I love it so darn much!)

DOUBLE BOOK RELEASE! AMANDA KAI, A LITTLE BIT FOOLISH & SWIPE RIGHT FOR MR DARCY

I’m here today celebrating a double book release! A Little Bit Foolish is a collection of Pride and Prejudice April Fool’s stories, and Swipe Right for Mr. Darcy is a modern retelling of Pride and Prejudice.

In 2021, I began a new tradition of releasing a new comedy story on April Fool’s Day with my  short story Unconventional, an Austentatious Comedy that Defies Expectations!   The following year, I wrote An Unexpected Party.  Last year, my plans for a short story were interrupted by the release of my full-length variation A Favorable Impression, and thus I did not complete an April Fool’s story in 2023. Therefore, this year, I decided to release a whole collection, including 3 brand-new stories!

AUTHOR GUEST POST & EXCERPT: AMANDA KAI, A FAVORABLE IMPRESSION

Hi Maria Grazia, thanks so much for having me back at My Jane Austen Book Club to help me celebrate the release of A Favorable Impression!

This is the second book in my series of Regency-era standalones, each featuring a different path to Happily Ever After for Darcy and Elizabeth. I guess you could say that each book takes place in a different “universe”, with all the same characters appearing, but with varying circumstances, which makes for a unique story in each, even though they are all patterned after Pride and Prejudice, and they all arrive at the same destination in the end. I suppose that is why we love Pride and Prejudice variations so much though, right?

AMANDA KAI, NOT IN WANT OF A WIFE. AUTHOR'S GUEST POST + EXCERPT

Hello everyone! Let's welcome author Amanda Kai to our online Jane Austen Book Club  and let's congratulate her on the publication of her latest book, Not in Want of a Wife. Scroll down and enjoy reading. MG

AUTHOR'S GUEST POST

Thank you, Maria Grazia, I’m so excited to be here today at My Jane Austen Book Club.

My latest book, Not In Want of a Wife, was born from the thought “what if Darcy and Elizabeth decided to fake a courtship?” The fake courtship/fake dating trope is such a fun one, because you just know that the couple who is pretending to like each other are going to fall in love! I absolutely love fake dating/fake courtship tropes, so it was really fun to put Darcy and Lizzy into this situation. Instead of getting off on the wrong foot at the Meryton Assembly, Darcy and Elizabeth strike up a secret partnership to make it look like they are courting one another.
