THE DASHWOOD SISTERS RETURN: OUR FIRST LOOK AT SENSE AND SENSIBILITY (2026)

More than three decades after Ang Lee's acclaimed adaptation introduced a generation of audiences to Emma Thompson's Elinor and Kate Winslet's Marianne, Sense and Sensibility is returning to the big screen.

Focus Features has released the first trailer for its highly anticipated new adaptation of Jane Austen's first published novel, directed by Georgia Oakley (Blue Jean) and written by bestselling novelist *Diana Reid. Judging from these first images, this isn't an attempt to recreate the beloved 1995 film. Instead, it appears to offer a fresh interpretation—one that feels quieter, earthier, and perhaps even closer to the realities Austen herself described.

Let's take a closer look at what we've learned so far.

LOVE & FRIENDSHIP PREVIEW IN AMSTERDAM – MEETING WHIT STILLMAN

My friend Monica Cardinale, great Austen fan living in Amsterdam, was lucky enough to take part in the special screening of Love & Friendship + Q/A with director Whit Stillman. Here are her account of the evening as well as some pictures. I can't wait to see the movie myself but, meanwhile,  I'm so grateful to Monica for sharing her musings  with us here at My Jane Austen Book Club!  Enjoy!

Tuesday night 12 April 2016 a special screening of Love & Friendship took place in Amsterdam at cinema The Movies. Director Whit Stillman was present and there was a Q&A with the audience afterwards.

KIM IZZO'S "THE JANE AUSTEN MARRIAGE MANUAL" TO BE ADAPTED FOR THE SCREEN

Do you remember Kim Izzo, journalist and writer, author of The Jane Austen Marriage Manual who guestposted here at My Jane Austen Book Club sharing the report of her meeting with the one and only Mr Darcy, Colin Firth? No? Yes? Well, anyway, if you've missed it, have a look HERE.
I  immediately thought she was a very lucky lady on that account, but today my conviction has even been made greater. Kim Izzo IS a very lucky, talented woman and her Austenesque marriage manual is going to be adapted .
Canadian film producer David Cormican announces the acquisition of the rights to bring  Kim Izzo’s debut novel The Jane Austen Marriage Manual to the screen.

Kim’s charming and witty first novel, The Jane Austen Marriage Manual – a must-read for Austen die-hards – explores the modern day love story with a meaningful message.  Izzo tells the story of Kate Shaw, an acting beauty editor at a fashion magazine who is about to turn forty.

MOVIES THAT JANE AUSTEN FANS MIGHT ENJOY

by guest blogger Allison Foster

If you are an Austen fan and you crave more “Austen” then I am here to recommend a couple other movies you might enjoy. While nothing can replace our favorites like Pride and Prejudice or Sense and Sensibility I have found a couple movies in the past which have not disappointed. You have to be a certain type of individual to like these kinds of movies: the English made or dramatic movies which move a little slower and add a lot of extra detail. This is what I love and crave and if you are of the same mind then I want to recommend what I consider a beautifully made movie that any Austen fan would love.

NORTH AND SOUTH

That movie is called North and South, written by Elizabeth Gaskell in 1855. It was a made for television movie in 2004 by the BBC. I had not seen this movie until a couple of years ago when I started watching other BBC shows and ran across this one. It was considered an industrial novel when it was written; it was written about relations between employers and workers of that time period.
